Internship Program

Internships

The IMSEI internship program has been established to provide a cooperative industrial and academic experience for IMSEI students and industrial sponsors. Students admitted to IMSE Institute under the Internship Program are expected to take courses during the Fall and Spring semesters. This is followed by 7.5 months of internship at one of the IMSE Institute member companies during which the students work on their applied research projects. The internship is followed by one additional semester of courses and research on-campus during which all the remaining degree requirements are fulfilled. Monthly stipend, tuition remission, and health insurance are provided during the internship months.

Requirements include US citizenship, permanent-residency, or valid Visa for international students (OISSS office) and outstanding scholastic record and GRE scores. Students from any engineering discipline, computer science, and the physical sciences may apply for admission to the IMSE Institute.

To learn more about the IMSE Institute's Internship Program or other opportunities, please contact Dr. Steve Jackson, Associate Director, at (919) 515-3808.

Fellowships

The Institute participates in the Dean's Fellowship program in the College of Engineering. The IMSE Institute nominates new US applicants for admission with outstanding undergraduate records for awards. Stipends are paid along with tuition and fees. Nominees are in competition with new applicants from other departments in the College of Engineering.

The Institute offers the Simons Foundation/IMSE Endowed Scholarship. This is a merit-based scholarship to women graduate students admitted to the IMSE Institute. Awards may be for one academic year or may be renewable if the recipient maintains satisfactory academic progress.

Students interested in applying for any fellowships must submit GRE scores. Undergraduate GPA of at least 3.5 is required for consideration. Funds are also available for a limited number of student applicants to visit the NCSU campus. The intent of this visit will be to provide some prospective students with the opportunity to become familiar with the education and research programs at the university and also to meet with some of the faculty.
